HTC HD2 Review

Greetings!
IMAG0736
Today I am going to review the HTC HD2, this is the 2nd phone which includes the HTC Sense User Interface as part of its user experience.
The first phone to have HTC Sense was HTC Hero

The HTC HD2 is a really big phone, it has a 4.3 inches capacitive touchscreen (Which basically means you can use your fingers instead of your fingernails when using the phone), the resolution size is 480×800 WVGA and includes Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional as its operating system, which was really fast as it comes with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
It comes with a 5MP + Autofocus and dual LED flash light with 3.5mm audio jack output with HTC’s ExtUSB (MicroUSB). On top of that, it comes with a Accelerometer (G-Sensor), Proximity Sensor and a ambient light sensor. Which is quite similar to the HTC Hero.

On the first glance, the HTC Sense User Interface looks very similar to the HTC TouchFlo3D interface, but it has changed a lot it many ways. It is much more flasher and nicer as compared to TouchFlo3D / 2D.
IMAG0743
The phone is running on Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional, which features the Honeycomb menu interface. Its pretty sweet, but sometimes it can be quite hard to find stuff as its not very orderly and quite messy. Being a Windows Mobile user before, using 6.5
IMAG0745
The keyboard should be running on HTC’s proprietary EzInput 2.1 and its very spacious, but its virtual. No physical keyboard.
IMAG0747
When the phone is turned to landscape mode, HTC’s own Cover Flow will be shown, and its a very interesting and nice concept being implemented into the phone screen here.
IMAG0751
The HTC HD2 will include direct Twitter integration.
IMAG0749
The Weather tab in the Sense UI is very flashy.
IMAG0753
The phone also comes with HTC Footprints which will geo-tag your photos. In short, when you see your photos, either on the phone / PC, you will see your location on where you took the photo. However, this requires the GPS to be on, and GPS will require about 3 to 4 minutes to find your X and Y co-ordinates in order to pin point your location. Which is quite pointless, who would want to wait for 3 to 4 minutes to take a photo, come on!
IMAG0759
The Calender on the HD2 is tightly integrated with the weather application, all your appointments and events will show in a neat tab and it will show you the weather on that day as well.
IMAG0760
The Camera applications is quite snappy, not much a problem. No much comments, quite ordinary camera functions as used in other phones.
IMAG0755
You can choose to see the big clock, or choose the small clock, as shown on the screenshot above.

Overall, the battery life can clock about 2 to 3 days will minimal calls and messages, I am quite satisfied about the device with a large screen.
However, heavy usage can bring the life of the device down.

Cheers.

  1. How abt surfing the webby? Does it upload fast when streaming anime or stock prices?

I am based in SG too and looking to get this phone.

    Any issues with the phone?

  2. Upload was pretty quick, as it runs on 3.5G.
Surfing the website using Internet Explorer is a big failure. However, using the given Opera Browser is much faster.

    Issues?
Battery lor, quite fast to run out.
About a day only with browsing. Should be improved.

    Thats much it.

  3. can this opera browser be used 2 update and stream anime/ see stock prices? tats my primary concern.

  4. Yup, there is stocks function and Flash Player 10 on the HD2. There is the YouTube application as well.

However, you may need a data plan from the carrier.

  5. for weather update, does it automatically connects to the GPRS by itself?

  6. Yes, it automatically connect to 3G and check for weather updates, around once every few hours.

    You can disable it though.

  7. It is a good smartphone but quite frustrated, the sense is too sensitive when I just lift up the phone, it changes to another screen. I have hard time trying to tap the address in the contact list. My weather cannot be updated in My Location. Anyone has another solutions?
